Meera Jasmine whose original name is Jasmine Mary Joseph is from Kuttapuzha, Thiruvalla, a small town in Kerela. She is the daughter of Joseph Philip and Aleyamma Philip. She is doing her degree in Home Science. Her entry into the film industry was through Malayalam.

                    Meera’s entry into films was an unexpected one. This talented artist was a very shy natured girl who had not even performed a single stage show during her schooling. Meera once went watch a film shooting with her friends and director Lohitadas noticed Meera and found out that there was something extraordinary about her and it was through his movie “Soothradharan”, she entered the film Industry.

            Meera Jasmine will be starring along with Bharath in the upcoming flick that is titled Nepali. Dorai will direct Nepali. Thottijaya and Mughavari are the earlier movies that Dorai has directed. Srikanth Deva will provide the music tunes for the movie. Bharath will be appearing in a very new look and the movie is expected to be an action based romantic thriller movie.

Career

A chance meeting with Malayalam screenwriter Lohithadas gave way to her debut in Malayalam Cinema through the movie Soothradharan in 2001.

Soothradharan did not do well at the box office. However,  Meera Jasmine continued to receive offers from Malayalam and Tamil film-makers, including the 2002 Tamil films Run and Bala.

The success of Run made her a well-known star in Kollywood.  Meera Jasmine acted in a number of Tamil movies with popular actors, and then proceeded to work with director Mani Ratnam in the film Aayitha Ezhuthu.

Meera Jasmine  entered Telugu cinema in 2004 with Ammayi Bagundi and Gudumba Shankar.  Meera Jasmine also entered Kannada cinema in 2004 with the film Mourya, in which  Meera Jasmine co-starred with Puneet Rajkumar.

After making her entry into all four South Indian languages,Meera Jasmine  has acted concurrently in Tamil, Malayalam and Telugu films. Her successful movies include Achuvinte Amma (Malayalam), Bhadra (Telugu) and Rasatantram (Malayalam).Her 2005 Tamil film Sandakozhi completed 200 days at the box office.

Her latest film, Arrasu, in Kannada is a super hit and Meera had got rave reviews as scene stealer when Meera Jasmine is on screen. Rajnikant is said to have shown interest in remaking this film in Tamil with his son-in-law Dhanush.
