MUSIC REVIEW OF KYA LOVE STORY HAI

Kya Love Story Hai’ brings out youthful colors of romantic comedy with a promising “feel good factor” and inspiring love story to lure pop genre audiences. It will be the first big solo film for Tusshar Kapoor this year after the super success of last year’s slap stick comedy ‘Golmaal’. It will be the first time when he will be paired with bubbly and vivacious Ayesha Takia. The film garnered headlines when Kareena Kapoor agreed for an item song without any remuneration for the directorial debut of her friend Lovely Singh. N.R Pachisia will be producing this light romantic comedy after his action packed thrillers like ‘Apradhi’, ‘Ziddi’, ‘Haqeeqat’ and ‘Arjun Pandit’ for about a decade. There was deviation in his choice of projects with sleazy entertainers ‘Julie’ and ‘Jawani Diwani’ in last few years and this will be his first offering for teenage audiences. Pritam comes lively again with this album after consecutive albums and its melodious and upbeat music will be one big promising factor in film prospects. The album has eight original soundtracks that can be heard on T-Series cassettes and CD’s.

Miss you everyday: The hip-shaking mood of 80’s disco station is revived again with the pulsating trendy rhythm patterns in the highly rip-roaring soundtrack “Miss You Everyday”. Pritam’s impressive echoing chorus musical work in “Kya Mujhe Pyar Hai” (’Woh Lamhe’) is mixed with Nazia Hassan’s style of disco tracks to create a rage of passion on dancing floors. Shaan’s swashbuckling voice raises the adrenaline and sets the body moving with hot steaming and pulsating disco fillers. It’s catchy, and flaming hot beats will positively be promising for its strong acceptance among teenage audiences with good prospects at the charts. This may not be as big hit as Pritam’s earlier solo track but has the tenacity of being highly entertaining.

This extra-enthusiastic soundtrack gets the boon of contemporary DJ musical thump in the booty shaking remix number “Miss You Everyday (remix)”. The racy beat patterns are fluxed with fast paced disco fillers to make it stylishly packed for the floors. It’s rocking: Alisha Chinai rendered “It’s rocking” has been the spotlight of this album where Kareena Kapoor has flashed her sensuality as an item girl after the success of “Yeh Mera Dil” (’Don’). This soundtrack promises to be chartbuster hit from the first beat as Alisha’s polished pop skills sizzle out with style. Pritam brings an aura of 50’s and 60’s with strong influence of O P Nayyar’s style of music as the number has the backdrop of immortal melody “Ude Ude Jab Jab Jhulfein Meri…” (’Naya Daur’). Pritam’s enthused vocals play surprise guest as he croons out this traditional song in the background with brilliant piece of fusion music. After the colossal success of “Kajra Re” (’Bunty Aur Babli’), this number has the potential of being eye-grabbing with catchy beats and will be a big hit in coming weeks. It’s a fine teamwork where Shabbir Ahmed’s infectious lyrics are finely blended with vocal sensuality of Alisha Chinai and well cushioned with Pritam’s rollicking musical impact. We wish there could be remix version to this highly frolicking number but still it has the optimum potential to be super hit. It’s really rocking!!!

GUMSUM HAI DIL MERA : Pritam’s infatuation with golden musical era of 50’s and 60’s continues and this time it comes shining all the way in the sweet n syrupy romantic soundtrack “Gumsum Hai Dil Mera”. Sonu Nigam gets into Mohd Rafi mode of singing while Pritam revives the musical madness of O.P Nayyar’s everlasting melody “Banda Parwar Tham Lo Jigar” (’Phir Wohi Dil Laya Hoon’ (1963) in this lively number. Even Shabbir Ahmed’s lyrics are praiseworthy in bringing together the nostalgic musical tonality and vocal exuberance. Hear it again and again if you believe that old melodies are uncut diamonds as this comes as a tribute to the golden era of Bollywood music.

AYE KHUDA: Pritam’s highly energetic theme song “Yaara Ve” (’Naksha’) was highly inspired from Sufi pop track “Sayonee” (Pakistan pop band Junoon). Now “Aye Khuda” has been conceived in similar musical tonality and rhythm patterns with spirited lyrics and impressive vocals to give an everlasting appeal. Kunal Ganjawala’s vociferous punch lifts the tempo of the song as the song is about the miseries of man seeking help from God. The song has a typical situational feel and should work impressively in melodramatic situations of the film.

DEEWANA TERI AANKHON KA: The aggressive hip-hop and reggae effect that triggered a rage of passion in “Pyar Karke” (’Pyar Ke Side Effects’) and “Rabba Khair Kare” (’Hattrick”) comes with full thrust in the highly pulsating soundtrack “Deewana Teri Aankhon Ka”. The number has the killer instinct impulse of “Ishq Hai Jhootha” (’Ek Khiladi Ek Haseena’) with Joy and Jojo’s energetic pop vocals behind the mike. The song has the infectious one-liner “Can you feel it” attached with highly effervescent rap n reggae impulsive to give it a truly rollicking bang. If the number gets itself into fine cinematic aesthetics on screen then it should be a big surprise winner on the charts and big blessing for album’s prospects.

JEENA KYA TERE BINA : Pritam’s attachment with conventional Arabic and Sufi pop maintains its top slot in this album as he punches the rhythm patterns of his highly successful “Ya Ali” (’Gangster’) in sentimental soundtrack “Jeena Kya Tere Bina”. The song reminds of Tusshar’s solo track “Jeena Sirf Mere Liye” (’Jeena Sirf Mere Liye’) in terms of its contents with strong musical impact of “Ya Ali” and “Kya Mujhe Pyar Hai” (’Woh Lamhe’). Shabbir Ahmed’s lyrics are expressively balanced in emoting out the sentimental outcry of a besieged lover. “Jeene Kya Tera Bina (remix)” is typical Pritam styled Sufi fusion pop remix number where DJ claps and beat juggling dominates with strong impact of signature tune of the song. It’s another big take on hip-shaking DJ’s choice of number and should work effectively on the floors.

Pritam maintains his golden run of success with ‘Kya Love Story Hai’ with fine pack of trendy and melodious soundtracks. The fast paced soundtracks have the repetitive musical feel of his previous hit albums but the surprise package lies in “It’s rocking”. The album will surely be catching attention in coming days and will be a big boost in the promotion and success of the film.

Out of action, but Brett Lee still wins Asha’s admiration

asha-bonsle.jpg

OTH know the importance of pitch and pace. For Brett Lee they are vital on the cricket field, for Asha Bhosle they have made her the golden voice of Bollywood.

There was talk of both as the pair reunited in Sydney for the first time since they recorded their unlikely bestselling duet and video of You’re the One for Me. The fast bowler’s physical pace may have been temporarily slowed thanks to an ankle injury that has put him out of the World Cup in the West Indies, but his verbal delivery was quick.

“It’s still a bit sore,” he said. “I snapped through three ligaments to make sure I was here today.” Bhosle smiled has he raised his trouser leg to reveal a leg brace.

Yesterday Lee caught up with Bhosle at the Sydney Opera House, where she was rehearsing with Kronos Quartet before her sold-out concerts with the ensemble tonight and tomorrow night.

Lee may be one of the world’s best-known cricketers, but to Bhosle he has other talents.

“He is a very good bowler, the fastest bowler in the world, but he is a musician first,” she said.

“He knows how to play guitar and he sings very well - in tune. He writes his songs.”

And as a songwriter Lee works with characteristic speed. He penned their lighthearted love duet, which has topped the charts in India and South Africa, in just 30 minutes.

He takes his guitar on tour with him and plays it most nights. It was a great outlet from cricket, he said.

“I’ve only been playing music for eight years. I still can’t read music. I only play from what I hear … but music has definitely changed my life. Anyone who plays music, understands music knows that once you do you are hooked.”

While he has so far recorded just one song, Bhosle has recorded more than 12,500 since she began singing in the 1940s. She is revered across the sub-continent and is said to be the world’s most recorded artist.

In recent years her work has reached Western audiences. The 74-year-old has recorded duets with Michael Stipe and Boy George, and was immortalised by Brimful of Asha, the 1997 song of the British band Cornershop.

Bhosle’s and Kronos’s Sydney concerts include work by the Indian film composer R.D. Burman - Bhosle’s late husband - from their Grammy-nominated album You’ve Stolen My Heart: Songs from R.D. Burman’s Bollywood.

Audio Review : Shake a leg to the rocking music

Producer: Suneel Darshan
Director: Suneel Darshan
Cast: Bobby Deol,Upen Patel, Celina Jaitley, Kangana Ranaut
Music: Himesh Reshammiya
Singers: Shaan, Sunidhi Chauhan, Akriti Kakkar, Kunal Ganjawala, Earl, Himesh Reshammiyya

Filmmaker Suneel Darshan has been associated with Nadeem Shravan whom he was fond of for the music of his films. The composers had delivered amazing music for them in the 90s when they were at the peak of their careers. Now the current music sensation Himesh Reshammiya steps in their shoes for the music of this flick with lyricist Sameer giving thelyrics. Let’s check out what’s in store from the music of the film.

‘Shakalaka Boom Boom’ the title songof the film at the start of the album makes you shake a leg making your heart go boom boom along with it. The song begins with a rap by Earl with Himesh taking over for the main rendition and Akriti Kakkar doing the female part. Himesh does a fine job overcoming the nasal sound and singing the track in medium pitched voice. It’s a hit material and promises you time in fun grooving.  It’s a very urban and catchy track sure to make it to the top of year’s favourite. The remix gets funkier and it’s a thoroughly enjoyable club number. Peppy and rhythmic mood continues as the remix version too keeps the party going.

Not taking a dip, the upbeat mood of the soundtrack continues with another foot tapping score ‘Thaare Vaaste’. A trademark Reshammiya song, this one is rendered by Shaan and Sunidhi Chauhan. What is noticeable is the fact that the song is infused with more entertaining quality rather than coming as a Sufi number throughout. A rhythmic love song ideal to be an enjoyable Bollywood score that you would cherish as well. However you can look forward to the remix version, as it offers nothing new other than additional beats and faster pace.

Sameer outshines in ‘Naamumkin’ that has lyrics worth noticing. Another traditional slow painful number composed and sung by Himesh it narrates the plight of a man who has lost the love of his life and cannot live without her. The orchestra makes its mark as well in this situational track. Remix version of the song sounds different because of the variety brought about in arrangement. Another nice number to be played along in club/lounge.

You get a sense of déjà vu with the next song ‘Dil Lagaayenge’ that offer nothing novel. But this club track should provide enough fodder to turn out to be a foot tapping score. Himesh Reshammiya and Akriti Kakkar pair up for both the original and remix tracks.

‘Isi Umeeed Pe’ arrives next but this moderate paced track has a distinct club feel to it. Rendered by Shaan this is a pretty small song but comes as one of the cherishable tracks from the album.

The good work continues with ‘Saathiya’ another small track spanning for 2 minutes with the English words ‘How Can I Live Without You’ chipped in. Kunal Ganjawala and Sunidhi Chauhan render this duet number.

Follows another short track in succession ‘Aaj Nahi To Kal’ sung by Sunidhi Chauhan. The rhythm of this number is indeed catchy.

‘Tera Sona Sona Roop’ is another rhythmic track by Kunal Ganjawala and Sunidhi Chauhan, which lasts for 2 minutes. All the short tracks have come as likeable number with infectious beats but lasting only for a while though you had wanted to enjoy them at full length.

We continue the complaint with ‘Rukhsat’ a pleasant score rendered by Shaan but lasting for only 75 seconds. Another enjoyable conventional Bollywood track.

Himesh just couldn’t do without the remix of the short numbers. But he has done that in an innovative way with the track 75 seconds which features each of the track done with new beats and rhythm. The song calls for repeat mode, which should click as club favourites.

Himesh Reshammiya and Sameer have delivered what a good audience expected out of them. The album has more hits than misses. The title song and ‘Thaare Vaaste’ are chartbusting material while ‘Naamumkin’ and ‘Dil Lagaayenge’ are apt for decent hearing. But the 5 short tracks take the album to a different level. The album is loaded with urban hip music and comprises both Himesh kind of music and the not so conventional ones.

Vasundhara Das is happy with Pop songs

vasundhara_das.jpg

She’s the blue-eyed girl of most music composers. Literally. Trained in Hindustani classical when she was knee-high, Vasundhara Das is a rare bird  a singing actress.

The 28-year-old has been busy with one meeting after another…but makes time to talk about herself:

Can you give an update on you?
I?ve completed work on my first Hindi jazz album with Ronojeet Gogoi. For the first time, we have attempted pure jazz in Hindi.

I?ve also collaborated with Babul Supriyo for his next private album…on a couple of the songs actually. Work wise, Iam flooded.

What about films?
Right now, Iam doing Ek Dastak, a story on the stock market
and Pathar bezubaan based on a real life incident in Uttar Pradesh. The films are on the editing table and should release mid-year.

What went wrong with your film career?
I disagree. Nothing has gone wrong. I started with author-backed roles. I enjoyed all the films
I did in Kannada, Tamil and Hindi. They were enriching experiences, including Kudiyon Ka Hai Zamaana. I did the film at a time when I was looking for a break from serious cinema. I felt it would be a relief.

Ultimately, every film can’t be a hit. Maybe its release wasn’t timed well. It’s also the director’s responsibility to get the actors to perform well. If one film doesn’t click, it doesn’t mean something has gone haywire with my film career.

Why dont you compose music?
I have co-composed music earlier for a private album Meri Jaan. Today, I’m exploring myself as a singer.

How come you haven’t won any award despite quite a few top-selling songs?
Who says I haven’t? Every time I see the crowd rocking at one of my gigs, it’s like winning an award. No trophy from a panel of critics can beat that.
